Women's Imaging Center

West Valley Medical Center offers digital mammography at its new Women's Imaging Center in Caldwell.

The center, which has a spa-like atmosphere aimed at enhancing the patient experience, is located next to the OB/GYN Associates clinic on the third floor of the Family Medical Center 315 E. Elm St. ― in Caldwell.

The Big Picture

The Women's Imaging Center's new digital mammography machine uses a selenium-based direct-capture technology, which eliminates light diffusion completely, producing perfect clarity and exquisite image quality.

This unit incorporates Hologic's patented HTC grid technology that delivers higher-quality images and significantly reduces excess radiation to the breast. To decrease discomfort caused by compression, the machine's smart paddles conform to the breast.

3-D And 4-D Ultrasound

West Valley Medical Center also has 3-D/4-D ultrasound imaging capabilities, meaning it can produce still images in a 3-D presentation, such as a baby's face, and moving 3-D images.

Bone Density Screening

The hospital's new Lunar Prodigy Bone Densitometry System allows it to scan both hips as well as the spine for most routine patients, providing improved measurement accuracy. This system significantly reduces the testing time for patients.

Advanced Imaging

The majority of imaging services at West Valley Medical Center are obtained and managed in a fully digital environment frequently referred to as Picture Archive and Communications System (PACS). Your physician can now see digital images, hear voice reports, and read and print electronic reports in the comfort of his or her office generally within hours of your diagnostic imaging procedure. This decreases the time from diagnosis to treatment of your health concerns.

West Valley Medical Center is now working with Gem State Radiology, which has expanded its services to include the Caldwell area. Residents who live in Canyon County no longer have to travel to Boise to have interventional radiology procedures.

These services include:

-- Placement of “Tunneled Permanent Catheters” for dialysis

-- Placement of “Temporary Catheters” for dialysis

-- Evaluation and maintenance of existing “AV Grafts” for dialysis patients (Individuals who are on dialysis for renal failure require a vascular access point through which their blood can be cleaned. These special ports are placed in a minimally invasive manner with imaging guidance such as fluoroscopy and/or ultrasound).

-- The placement and removal of Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters for patients at risk for pulmonary embolism. (Fractures of large bones of the body, as well as many surgical procedures, increase a patient’s risk for a pulmonary embolism. Using imaging guidance, a specially designed filter can be placed, prior to surgery, in a patient’s IVC, preventing small blood clots from reaching the lungs. When the patient has recovered and the risk for further clotting problems has passed, the filter can be safely removed in the same fashion as it was placed).

-- Placement of “Port-a-Caths” and “Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheters” (PICC lines) for patients on long-term chemotherapy or the infusion of other medications. (Patients who are being treated for various types of cancer may find it much more comfortable to have a long-term central venous access device placed instead of having to be stuck several times a week for infusions of medication. Using ultrasound guidance and fluoroscopy, doctors from Gem State Radiology can provide a simple, effective alternative).

Your physician can arrange for these procedures by calling 455-6500.
